Bio
My journal includes all aspects of my life: horses, school, work, my art, and whatever else may come to mind.

I ride and show horses, it is the one passion in life that grabbed hold of me by the neck when I was a very little child and has hung on with a suffocating grip ever since. All I ever wanted to do for as long as I can remember is show horse. In the midst of all the changes in life that has never wavered for a moment. My horse, Reeces, is my best friend and my family all rolled into one hairy bundle of mischievousness.

After being in a corporate job now for a few years I am heading back to academia. January 2008 I will be starting a MA program in Art History, specializing in Renaissance/Baroque. It has been a long and frustrating journey on the road to grad school but I have finally made it happen and proved even to myself how persistent I can be.

Unlike my passion with horses, my passion for art has never been a steady relationship. We may yell, throw things at each other, and walk out on one another once and awhile, but like any truly dysfunctional relationship we both end up finding each other again and again. I studied graphic design in technical college and painting in undergraduate to the chagrin of my family. My relationship with the art world is a confusing swirl of not fitting into a group that prides itself on not fitting in, and that is a strange place to find oneself. The older I get though, the more I find I like my place.

In looking through the art on my journal you will find that my titles are about as bland as oatmeal. They are suppose to be. If I could, every piece would be titled Untitled, but that makes for an organizational nightmare, so instead each piece has a very short, but exacting, descriptive title. Feel free to constructively critique any art you see posted. Because of my background in graphic design, there will always be that element in everything I do – I can’t help it, it is just too engrained, so I work with it. Using my sense for graphic qualities I began deconstructing photographs (figuratively, not literally cutting them up and gluing them back together) a few years ago and then recreating them using grids. An obsession that stems from a certain college professor who assigned a project relating to Chuck Close’s work with grids and portraits. My painting style is a mix of impressionistic and realistic, contained within graphic boundaries.
